How slots work
Slots with bonus rounds: what each feature type hands you
On a High volatility slot the bonus round is where the return lives, and the rounds are not alike. Sticky wilds compound, tumble multipliers add up, marked spots double, a fisherman collects, a symbol expands, and two games pay an instant award before the first free spin. This guide sorts the slots with bonus rounds in our catalogue by what the round does.

Why the round matters more than the base game
A slot returns a fixed share of stakes over its life, and on a High volatility title most of that share is paid through the feature rather than the base reels. The base game hits often, 27 to 33 spins in a hundred on the three games in our record with a measured frequency, but the pays are small; the round is rare, once every 177 spins on Wild West Gold and once every 437.62 on Gates of Olympus Super Scatter, and it carries the size. Choosing a slot by its round is therefore choosing where the return comes from, which is why this page sorts by feature rather than theme.
The types below are the ones in the catalogue. Each is described from the studio's own feature list: the trigger, the spin count, what the round does to the multipliers, and the ceiling it can reach. Slot volatility explains why the round is rare; this page is about what happens when it lands.
Sticky multiplier wilds: the compounding round
The Dog House sets the pattern: wilds on reels two, three and four carry a 2x or 3x multiplier in the base game, and in the round of 9 to 27 free spins they stay where they land. Each new wild adds to the board, the multipliers stack on a winning line, and the 6,750x ceiling is what a board full of them can reach. Wild West Gold raises the wilds to 2x, 3x or 5x and adds them together when several land on one line; it opens with 8 spins and awards 4 to 20 more for further scatters, with a 10,000x cap on 40 lines.
The Hand of Midas adds the one thing no other round here has: a guaranteed minimum. Three, four or five scatters open the round with a floor of 10x, 20x or 30x the bet, each scatter spins three mini reels of 1 to 3 free spins for up to 45 in total, and if the floor is not reached another mini reel per triggering scatter is awarded. Cleocatra makes every wild 2x or 3x, opens 8, 12 or 16 spins with sticky wilds, and adds two spins whenever a full stack of cats lands on reel one. Hot Fiesta keeps the 2x, 3x and 5x on piñata wilds across 9 to 27 spins on 25 lines.
| The Dog House | 9 to 27 spins, sticky 2x or 3x wilds, 6,750x |
|---|---|
| Wild West Gold | 8 spins plus 4 to 20, sticky 2x, 3x or 5x wilds that add, 10,000x |
| The Hand of Midas | up to 45 spins, floor of 10x, 20x or 30x, 5,000x |
| Cleocatra | 8, 12 or 16 spins, sticky 2x or 3x wilds, 5,000x |
| Hot Fiesta | 9 to 27 spins, 2x, 3x or 5x wilds, 5,000x |
Tumble multipliers: the round that builds one large spin
Gates of Olympus opens 15 free spins on four or more scatters. Multiplier orbs worth up to 500x land during the tumbles, and in the round every orb that lands on a winning tumble is added to a running total applied to that spin, so a single spin can carry several orbs at once. Sweet Bonanza gives 10 spins with candy bombs worth 2x to 100x under the same rule and a 21,100x ceiling. The 1000 editions keep the round and raise the orbs: 2x to 1,000x on Gates of Olympus 1000 and Starlight Princess 1000 with a 15,000x cap, candy bombs to 1,000x on Sweet Bonanza 1000 with a 25,000x cap.
The Sugar Rush grids run the cluster version. Each spot where a win explodes gets marked, and a second explosion on the same spot adds a multiplier that doubles on every repeat, from 2x to 1,024x. In the round, which starts with at least ten free games on Sugar Rush 1000 and runs up to 30 on Sugar Rush Super Scatter, the marked spots and their multipliers stay until the end, which is how a 25,000x or 50,000x spin is assembled.
Money collect and expanding symbols: the older rounds
The fisherman collects
Big Bass Bonanza opens 10 to 20 free spins on three to five scatters. Money symbols worth up to 2,000x the bet land on the reels, and each wild fisherman collects every money symbol on screen; collecting enough retriggers the round and raises a multiplier up to 10x on the collected values. The ceiling is 2,100x on the original and 20,000x on Big Bass Bonanza 1000, where the money symbols top out at 1,000x and a buy button is added. The label is Med-High on the original, the only round here that pays regularly between features.
The book expands
Book of Dead is the Play'n GO round: three books open 10 free spins, one symbol is chosen to expand across whole reels when it lands, and the round re-triggers. The book is wild and scatter at once, the grid is five by three on ten lines, and the ceiling is 5,000x. It is the simplest round in the catalogue and the one most of the Book of Dead codes at Play Fortuna Casino, Riobet Casino and Spinbetter Casino land you in.
Rounds you choose, and rounds that pay before they start
Two games hand the choice to you. The Dog House Megaways opens Sticky Wilds, 7 to 20 spins with up to seven sticky wilds per reel, or Raining Wilds, 15 to 30 spins with up to six wilds dropping each spin, on three to six scatters; the Megaways page compares them. Zeus VS Hades makes the choice before the session: Olympus triggers its 10 free spins with sticky expanding wilds more often with a lower average, Hades more rarely with a higher one, up to 100x on the wilds and 15,000x overall. Heroic Spins spins a wheel before its round that sets both the spin count and the multiplier applied to every win in it.
The Super Scatter pair pays before the round begins. Land one Super Scatter among the triggering symbols and the game pays 100x the bet at once; two pays 500x, three 5,000x, four the 50,000x maximum. Then the original round runs: 15 spins with 500x orbs on the Gates edition, up to 30 spins with 1,024x spots on the Sugar Rush edition. Neither has a public demo in our record, so the base game is best learned on the originals.
Triggers and the buy button
Every round above is triggered by scatters, and the counts differ: four or more on Gates of Olympus and Sweet Bonanza, three or more on the Sugar Rush grids and Book of Dead, three to six on The Dog House Megaways, three to five on The Hand of Midas and Big Bass Bonanza. Where the game sells the round, the price in our record is 100 times the bet: the Wild West Gold panel reads 10,000 at a bet of 100, and The Dog House Megaways reads 2000 at a bet of 20. The Dog House, Hot Fiesta, Heroic Spins, Zeus VS Hades and Big Bass Bonanza sell nothing.
A bought round has the same odds inside it as a triggered one; what you buy is the wait. On a stake set for a long session that price is a hundred spins, which is most of the session, so the buy belongs to a reader with a separate budget for it. How to choose a slot puts the buy decision after the stake, the label and the ceiling, in that order.
Two kinds of free spin
A casino free spin is not a bonus round. The 100 spins from a code at Vavada Casino are base-game spins on The Dog House at a stake fixed by the brand; a scatter hit during them opens the round on top. The card in the no deposit hub prints the spin value and the wagering.

Quick answers
Which slot has the best bonus round
It depends on what you want from it. The Hand of Midas is the only round in the catalogue with a guaranteed minimum, 10x, 20x or 30x the bet by the number of triggering scatters. The Dog House Megaways gives a choice of two rounds. The Super Scatter pair pays an instant 100x to 50,000x before the spins start. For pure ceiling, those two lead at 50,000x.
How many free spins do bonus rounds give
From 8 to 45 in the catalogue. Wild West Gold opens with 8 and adds up to 20 for further scatters; Gates of Olympus gives 15; Sweet Bonanza and Book of Dead give 10; The Dog House gives 9 to 27; Sugar Rush Super Scatter up to 30; The Hand of Midas up to 45 across mini reels. The count matters less than what the wilds or multipliers do during it.
Is buying the bonus round worth it
The price is 100 times the bet on Wild West Gold and The Dog House Megaways, and the round inside has the same odds as one triggered by scatters. Buying trades a hundred spins of waiting for one feature now. It suits a reader who can afford the price; on a stake set for a long session it usually cannot be afforded.
Do free spins from a casino code count as a bonus round
No. Casino free spins are base-game spins at a fixed stake, paid for by the brand; the Vavada Casino code gives 100 of them on The Dog House. A bonus round is the feature inside the game, triggered by scatters or bought. A casino spin can trigger the round, and then you get both.
