Wagering requirements: what the multiplier costs in bets
A wagering requirement is the total you must stake before a bonus win can leave the account. The multiplier looks small on the card; turned into spins it is the whole price of the offer, and this page does that arithmetic on the terms we verified.

What does a wagering requirement say you must do
The clause sets a number of bets, not a number of wins. Under 20x a bonus win must be staked twenty times over before the balance can be withdrawn; under 45x, forty-five times. Every bet you place counts towards the total whether it wins or loses, so the requirement is a volume of play, and the volume is what costs you money, because each spin carries the house edge of the slot it lands on.
The base the multiplier applies to changes everything. On the no deposit codes we track it is usually the win from the free spins, which is small. On deposit offers it can be the bonus alone or the deposit plus the bonus, and the second version doubles the sum without changing the printed number. The terms name the base in one line; the multiplier without that line tells you nothing.
Note
A wagering requirement is finished when the total staked reaches the target, not when the balance reaches a figure. A losing streak counts towards it just as a winning one does.
How much play does 20x or 45x turn into
Take the Vavada code: 100 free spins on The Dog House at a spin value of $0.20, which is $20 of spins. Readers report an average session leaves about $8 of winnings in the bonus balance. Under the 20x clause on free spin winnings that $8 becomes $160 of bets, and at $0.20 a spin that is 800 spins: eight times the length of the original free round. A good bonus round that leaves $40 needs $800 of bets under the same clause.
Now the same $8 under a 45x clause, which is the value printed by most brands on our cards: $360 of bets, more than twice the volume. The multiplier looks like a small difference between 20 and 45; the difference on the table is 200 spins against 450 spins per dollar won.
The cashout cap does the rest. At Booi the code carries 40x and a cap of $20. A session that leaves $6 needs $240 of bets to clear, and the most you can take out at the end is $20, so a target of $200 is not reachable there regardless of luck. Cat prints 45x: $5 of winnings becomes $225 of bets before a cent can leave.
The two numbers to read together
Multiplier and cap. A light multiplier with a low cap is a short grind for a small prize; a heavy multiplier with no cap is a long grind that can pay. Neither is a trick on its own, and both are on the card of every bonus page we publish.
Which brands print the lightest multiplier
The values below come from the bonus terms we checked on the form, printed exactly as the brands print them. The lightest clauses in our catalogue sit at 20x on free spin winnings; the heaviest reach 50x.
| Casino | No deposit bonus | Wagering | Max cashout |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vavada Casino | 100 free spins | x20 on free-spin winnings | not published |
| Play Fortuna Casino | 100 free spins | 20x | €100 / $100 |
| Spinbetter Casino | 100 free spins | 20x | not published |
| 1xSlots Casino | 100 free spins | 25x | not published |
| Booi Casino | 100 free spins | 40x | $20 |
| Bitstarz Casino | 20 free spins on registration | 40x the bonus sum | 100 EUR/USD/USDT |
| Cactus Casino | 100 free spins | 40x | EUR 5,000 |
| Auf Casino | 100 free spins | 50x | not published |
A wager of 20x with an unpublished cap is not automatically better than 40x with a published one: ask the chat for the cap before you play, and keep the answer.
Why some games count for less
Casinos weight games by their edge. Slots normally count every bet in full. Table games and live dealer tables count at a fraction of the stake or not at all, because a bet on blackjack at a house edge below one percent would clear the requirement almost for free. Some slots with a high published return are excluded by name, and the excluded list is the clause players skip most often.
The practical effect: a requirement cleared on slots is cleared at the slot's edge, and a requirement chased on roulette may never move at all. If the contribution table says a game counts at ten percent, every ten dollars staked there moves the counter by one. Before touching a table game with bonus money open, read that table; the guides on table game RTP and what RTP means explain why the weighting exists.
What the max bet rule does to a bonus
Every bonus we have read carries a maximum stake per spin or per hand while the requirement is open. Bet above it once and the terms allow the brand to void the bonus and its winnings. The clause exists to stop a player from staking the whole balance on one spin and either clearing the requirement in seconds or losing nothing they cared about.
The value is not the same everywhere, and the guide on max bet and game rules shows why. The safe habit is simple: set the stake on the slot before the first bonus spin, and do not touch the bet size until the counter reads complete.
Watch out
Readers report the most common reason a no deposit win is voided is a single bet above the max bet line, placed by accident on a slot that remembered a higher stake from a previous session.
How we read a wagering clause before printing a code
Find the base
Bonus, free spin winnings, or deposit plus bonus. The word decides whether the printed multiplier is the whole story or half of it.
Find the cap
A max cashout turns the requirement into a ceiling. If none is printed we ask the chat and write the answer on the card.
Find the clock
Most terms give a number of days to finish. An expired requirement forfeits the balance whatever the counter says.
Find the excluded games
The list of slots that do not count, and the fraction for tables and live dealers.
Find the max bet
The stake ceiling while the requirement is open, and whether it applies per spin, per hand or per round.
A clause that passes these five reads goes on the bonus page with the number of spins it costs. One that hides the base or the cap gets a note instead of a recommendation.
Apply it
The lightest clause on our cards
Vavada prints 20x on free spin winnings, the value the arithmetic above was built on. The review shows where the field is and what the cap question got as an answer.
Quick answers
What does 40x wagering mean
You must place bets worth forty times the bonus amount, or forty times the win from free spins, before the money becomes withdrawable. A win of six dollars under 40x means two hundred and forty dollars of bets. The bets can win or lose; only the total staked counts.
Is wagering counted on the bonus or on the deposit
It depends on the clause. No deposit offers count it on the bonus or on the free spins win. Deposit offers sometimes count it on deposit plus bonus, which doubles the sum. The bonus terms name the base; our bonus pages print it on the card.
Do all games count towards wagering
No. Slots usually count in full, table games and live dealers count at a fraction or not at all, and some slots are excluded outright. Betting on an excluded game can void the bonus, so the eligible games clause matters as much as the multiplier.
Can a casino require more than 10x wagering
Offshore brands can and most do: 40x and 45x are the common values on our cards. Only sites licensed in Great Britain are bound by the Gambling Commission code that caps wagering on bonus funds at ten times, and none of the brands we review holds that licence.
