Casino cashback bonus explained: refund, base and multiplier

A cashback bonus returns a share of what you lost over a period, and its worth is set by three terms the banner leaves out: what counts as a loss, how often it is paid, and whether the refund has to be wagered before it can leave. Here is how each casino we review sets those three terms in its cashback bonus.

What cashback refunds and what it does not

The refund is a percentage of net losses over the period: what you deposited, minus what you withdrew, minus what is still on the balance when the period closes. A week that ends in profit returns nothing, and a week where a win was withdrawn before the close counts the deposit that funded it. The percentage in the banner is applied to that net figure, not to turnover and not to each losing bet.

Some brands calculate on turnover instead and call it rakeback: Stake pays a monthly rakeback on bets placed, and Duel returns a fixed slice of every bet instantly. Rakeback pays on winning weeks too and is smaller per unit; cashback pays only on losing ones and is larger. The word on the promotions page tells you which one you are reading.

Note

Net losses is the phrase to find in the terms. A refund on gross losses would pay on every losing spin; none of the brands we review pays that way.

Why the multiplier on the refund decides its value

A refund that lands in the main balance with no wagering is money: Booi credits its weekly cashback that way every Thursday, in real money, and the refund can be withdrawn the same day; Play Fortuna's weekly refund carries no multiplier either. A refund that lands as bonus money with a multiplier is a further session at the same house edge: Vavada attaches 5x to its monthly cashback, Vodka 3x. At 5x, a refund is played through five times before any of it can leave, and the edge takes its share of each pass.

The arithmetic makes wager-free small percentages worth more than wagered large ones. A weekly refund of a few percent with no multiplier is a real cut in the cost of play; a monthly refund of ten percent at 5x is a bonus with the usual bonus price. The wagering guide shows what a multiplier costs in spins.

How the brands we review set the three terms

From the terms and the promotions pages, as the brands print them. Percentages by loyalty rung rise as you climb; the entry value is the one a new account gets.

Booi's ladder climbs from Wooden Lemur through Silver Eagle, Golden Alligator and Platinum Elephant to Diamond Lion, and each rung raises the weekly figure. Percentages and periods change with promotions; the review page carries the current line.

What the first-month, daily and crypto variants add

The first-month variant front-loads the refund. Betico returns up to 70 percent of losses over the first month in stages: 20 percent after the first day, 15 percent after the first seven days, 10 percent after the first fifteen, with the base running from registration. The daily variant shortens the period so a bad evening is partly returned the next morning: Betico's daily line runs up to 10 percent with no cap, Spinbetter pays from weekly up to daily by level.

The crypto variant pays on losses in coins only: Winz returns 20 percent of net crypto losses daily with no upper cap, and a separate 10 percent on live casino losses for the first two weeks, all wager-free by the brand's own description. A refund on crypto losses is a refund on the balance you fund in coins, and the crypto bonuses page lists what else those accounts get.

What cashback does to the house edge, and what it cannot do

A wager-free refund of a share of net losses lowers the average cost of play by about that share over the long run; it does not touch the return figure of any game, and it does not make a losing player a winning one. A refund with a multiplier lowers the cost by less, since the refund is spent at the same edge. Cashback is priced by the casino as a retention tool: it pays most to the players who lose most, which is the point to keep in view when a large percentage looks generous.

The honest use is as a discount on play you were going to do anyway, not as a reason to play more. A player who raises the stake because the refund is coming pays the edge on the larger stake and gets a share of the larger loss back. The RTP guide covers the figure that does not move.

How to read a cashback offer in four lines

  1. The base

Net losses over the period, or turnover. Net losses pays only on losing periods.

  2. The period

Daily, weekly, monthly. Shorter periods return money sooner and pay on more periods.

  3. The wagering

None, or a multiplier. None means money; a multiplier means a bonus.

  4. The cap and the exclusions

A maximum refund, and whether bonus play, live tables or sports count towards the loss.

The cashback ranking sorts the brands by those four lines rather than by the percentage in the banner.

Cashback paid as money, every Thursday

Booi credits the weekly refund in real money to the main balance with no wagering, rising from 4 to 7 percent through its loyalty ladder; the price is a hard document check before the first withdrawal.

Quick answers

What is a casino cashback bonus

A percentage of your net losses over a period, a day, a week or a month, returned to the account. Net means deposits minus withdrawals minus the balance left, so a winning week returns nothing. The percentage, the period and whether the refund carries wagering are the three terms that set its value.

Is cashback wager-free

At some brands. Booi credits its weekly cashback to the main balance every Thursday with no wagering, Play Fortuna's weekly refund carries no multiplier either, and Betico and Winz state wager-free refunds. Vavada attaches 5x to its monthly cashback and Vodka 3x, so the refund there is bonus money until played through.

How much cashback is normal

Single digits a week for most players: Booi and Play Fortuna run 4 to 7 percent, Riobet 5 to 8, Vodka 5 to 15. Vavada pays 10 percent monthly. The larger figures are on crypto losses at Winz, 20 percent daily, and in Betico's first month, up to 70 percent in stages. Read the base each applies to.

Does cashback change the house edge

It lowers your average loss without changing the game. A wager-free refund of ten percent of net losses cuts the long-run cost of play by roughly that share; a refund with a multiplier attached cuts it by less, because the refund is played through at the same edge. The return figure of the slot stays where it was.
