Big Bass Hold & Spinner: two ways to reel in a bonus

Big Bass Hold & Spinner gives you two bonus paths on ten fixed paylines: Fisherman free spins that can reach a 10x collection multiplier, and a separate Money-symbol round with four lives.

The attraction of the second is repeat collection. A new coin can pay the values already held on the grid again, as well as its own value.

Pragmatic Play introduced Big Bass Hold & Spinner in 2023. Big Bass Bonanza Hold and Spinner is the longer name used for the same game. Its five reels and three rows keep the fishing rods, floats and tackle box familiar, while coins and diamonds open the additional respin feature.

Two triggers, two different collections

Three or more Money symbols anywhere in the base game start Hold & Spinner. Their positions stay occupied throughout the feature. Three, four or five Scatters start 10, 15 or 20 Fisherman free spins instead. These are symbol triggers: they do not need to sit on a winning payline.

You can recognise the paths by their symbols. A Fish may carry a cash value, but it belongs to the Fisherman's collection. Money coins and diamonds belong to the four-life feature. A diamond is a Money symbol worth 50x base stake or more; it follows the Money trigger and collection rules.

The four-life round pays held values again

At entry, all ordinary symbols disappear and the triggering Money symbols stay in place. Their values are added to the award before the first respin. The round starts with four lives, shown as hearts, and respins take no additional stake.

A respin with at least one new Money symbol does two things: it restores the counter to four lives, and it adds the sum of every Money value currently on the grid to the accumulated award. That includes the symbols which were there before the respin. A miss loses one life and adds no new collection. The feature ends when no lives remain, subject to the game's total win cap.

The four-life Hold & Spinner round A new Money symbol resets four lives and adds the full current Money sum; a miss loses one life, with more respins while lives remain and an end at zero. START MISS 1+ LIVES NEW MONEY REPEAT 0 LIVES 3+ Money Add their sum Start: 4 lives Respin Money stays held No extra stake No new Money Lose 1 life New Money lands Reset: 4 lives Add entire grid sum Feature ends Total awarded Explanatory rules diagram. The total win cap applies.
Every new Money symbol restores four lives and collects all current values again. The diagram illustrates rules, not a played round.

Money values range from 1x to 2,000x the triggering base stake in the EUR game configuration described here. The value range tells you how a landed symbol is priced; it does not tell you how often a value will appear. Keeping a 5x coin on the board means it can be included in later successful collections. It does not guarantee another successful respin.

A hypothetical 34x collection

Take a €0.20 base stake, with three starting Money values of 1x, 2x and 5x. They give an initial 8x. Suppose the next two successful respins add a 3x symbol and then a 4x symbol, with no other additions. The calculation is:

Entry

Values held on the grid
1x + 2x + 5x
Added to the award
8x
Accumulated award
8x

New 3x symbol

Values held on the grid
1x + 2x + 5x + 3x
Added to the award
11x
Accumulated award
19x

New 4x symbol

Values held on the grid
1x + 2x + 5x + 3x + 4x
Added to the award
15x
Accumulated award
34x

8x + 11x + 15x = 34x, so the example award is 34 × €0.20 = €6.80. Four consecutive misses after that second addition would use the four restored lives and end this example round. Each miss leaves the accumulated award unchanged. This is a hypothetical sequence, with no claim about its probability or a typical return.

Counting only 8x + 3x + 4x would give 15x and miss the repeated collection. The running sum of held symbols and the accumulated award are different numbers: in the last row they are 15x and 34x respectively.

Fishermen collect Fish and build a retrigger trail

The Scatter award gives you 10, 15 or 20 free spins. The stake remains the one that triggered the feature. Fisherman Wilds can appear anywhere during these spins. Each Fisherman collects the cash values of all Fish in view and substitutes for ordinary symbols on paylines, with Scatter and Money excluded from substitution.

Fish cash values range from 2x to 10,000x base stake in this configuration. The Fish symbol also has its own ordinary line payout. That paytable award and the cash number on a Fish are separate: lining up Fish can form a line win, while cash collection requires a Fisherman during free spins.

All Fishermen that land are collected on the trail above the reels. Every fourth collected Fisherman awards another ten free spins. The new batch waits until the current batch finishes, so reaching a threshold does not immediately replace the remaining spins with a new multiplier.

The third retrigger is the end of this trail. There is no fourth extra batch from collecting more Fishermen. The 2x, 3x and 10x values multiply Fish cash collection in their corresponding batches; they are not a blanket multiplier for every ordinary line payout.

As a hypothetical collection at the 3x stage, Fish values of 2x and 5x total 7x base stake. One Fisherman collects 7x × 3 = 21x, which is €4.20 at a €0.20 triggering stake, before any separate line wins. A second Fisherman on that same spin would collect those visible Fish values too. Every collection and the round total remain subject to the 10,000x win cap.

The hook, bazooka and dynamite change the display

The base game has a possible hook rescue when only two Scatters land. The hook can shift one reel without a Scatter to reveal a third. It is a random opportunity, so two Scatters by themselves do not award free spins.

During free spins, a Fisherman with no Fish on the screen can lead to either of these random modifiers:

  • A bazooka replaces the non-Fisherman positions with new symbols, which may include Fish.
  • Dynamite changes a random number of non-Fisherman positions into Fish with cash values for the Fisherman to collect.

A separate free-spin hook can shift one or two reels to bring Fisherman and Fish symbols into view. These additions explain why a spin's first display may change before collection. Their conditions do not establish an activation frequency or a guaranteed rescue.

Ten lines, including a two-Float payout

Ordinary wins start on the leftmost reel and follow one of the ten fixed paylines across adjacent reels. Only the highest qualifying award is paid on an individual line; awards on different lines are added. Ten lines are always in play and the line count cannot be changed.

Every value in this paytable is a multiple of the total base stake for one winning line. Multiply it by the total stake, without dividing that stake by ten again. The Float is the exception to the usual three-symbol minimum: two matching Floats pay 0.5x. The other ordinary symbols have no two-symbol award.

For a hypothetical €0.20 spin, three Floats on one qualifying line pay 5 × €0.20 = €1.00. Five Floats on the same line pay 200x, or €40.00. That five-symbol combination pays its highest qualifying amount once; the shorter three- and four-Float awards are not added to it. A second winning line would be counted separately.

The special symbols have feature roles rather than another set of ordinary matching-symbol payouts. The Fisherman Wild has no self-payout in the table. Scatters award 10, 15 or 20 free spins for three, four or five symbols. Money coins and diamonds start Hold & Spinner at three or more symbols. Fisherman substitution cannot turn an ordinary match into either of those special triggers.

A casino review helps you compare the account, wider game catalogue and bonus choices before deciding where to play. The Vavada review covers those choices separately from this game's mechanics. Its casino information card describes Vavada generally; exact Hold & Spinner availability and the game settings depend on the catalogue and menu available to your account.

Ante costs 50% extra; the two purchases cost 100x each

The EUR configuration offers a choice between ordinary spins, an Ante Bet with a 50% extra cost, and two separate feature purchases. The free-spins purchase costs 100x base total stake. Hold & Spinner has its own purchase at 100x base total stake. Paying for one selects that feature's entry; it does not buy both rounds together.

Ante doubles the relative chance of Scatters and the Hold & Spinner trigger in this game's EUR rules. The payout, Fish and Money calculations still use the underlying base stake. A 5x amount at a €0.20 base stake remains €1.00 with Ante; the extra €0.10 per spin does not make it €1.50. The doubled relative chance is not an absolute bonus probability or a promised number of spins to a feature.

Both purchase options are disabled while Ante is active. Each purchase is capped at €5,000, corresponding to a €50 base stake in this menu. Buying a feature is its entry cost, not the amount it will return. Availability of these options depends on the particular game menu; the presence of an ordinary slot listing does not guarantee a Buy feature button.

What 96.07% RTP and the 10,000x cap tell you

Pragmatic Play's catalogue lists 96.07% RTP for Big Bass Hold & Spinner. RTP describes a theoretical long-run proportion of stakes returned by the configured game. It is different from the chance of a winning spin, a feature frequency or the return on a short session. The version opened at a casino needs its own in-game information reading, including any separate Ante value shown there.

At that catalogue figure, a hypothetical €10,000 in turnover gives €10,000 × 0.9607 = €9,607 theoretical return, a €393 difference. Turnover is the sum of stakes, including money staked again; it is not a €10,000 deposit. These numbers cannot predict a player's session result.

The 10,000x ceiling covers the whole round

The EUR rules cap the game's total win at 10,000x base stake. At the listed €250 ordinary maximum, that is €2,500,000. At a hypothetical €0.20 base stake, the equivalent cap is €2,000. Those are ceilings, not target awards. Remaining free spins do not extend the total beyond the cap, and a Fisherman's collection cannot exceed it even when the visible Fish sum would be larger.

The game is described as high volatility in a published casino listing. Its two features and 10,000x potential explain the emphasis on bonus rounds, but the label gives no measured hit rate or session distribution. Raising the stake, activating Ante or buying a feature changes the cost of play; it does not turn the maximum into an expected result.

These are separate settings, not a currency conversion. The EUR maximum does not establish a £250 limit, a PLN range or the menu at a different casino. Before selecting a paid option, read the total BET amount and that game's information screen. With Ante, distinguish the increased charge from the base stake used in payout calculations.

Recognise the exact edition before opening its demo

The defining combination is five reels, three rows, ten fixed lines and a separate four-life Money round. Hold & Spinner Megaways is another edition. Keeping It Reel is another game too, with its Golden Wild and landing net; those mechanics do not belong to this Hold & Spinner review.

Pragmatic Play's Big Bass Hold & Spinner game page contains its demo entry. It is a useful place to recognise the two triggers and watch the distinction between Fish cash collection and held Money. Access to that demo and the settings of a real-money casino game are separate. No demo balance is a cash award or a casino bonus.

Mobile controls and the total stake display

The mobile version keeps the same rules, stakes and prizes as its corresponding desktop game, with the arrangement of controls adapted to the device. In the EUR rulebook, the information control opens the paytable, plus and minus adjust the stake, and the CREDIT/BET display can switch between coins and cash. The total BET figure is the one to relate to the multipliers in this review.

Choose this edition for the combination of Fisherman collection and repeated Money sums. The four-life round gives you a different sequence to follow from the free-spin trail: watch lives, held values and accumulated award separately. That is the useful distinction to carry into the demo and the exact game menu you select.
